As befits someone of her global stature, Diana Ross has never lacked literary attention. She has recorded her own ups and downs and has been the subject of various, and variable, biographies. Diana, Queen of Motown is a different Diana Ross book. It's written by one of the people for whom she does what she does-a fan like so many, with his own personal reasons to be grateful for her talent, her artistry and her ability to take an audience to another place. And that's what makes this book special. It concentrates not on her private life, or reams of speculation and psycho-signifying, but on her work-her music, her movies, her live performances.-her 'supreme' achievements through five decades of consummate professionalism and unrivalled worldwide popularity. There will never be another Diana Ross. Now's the time to celebrate and appreciate the one we've got-the one and only Queen of Motown.

This is a truly amazing book. You can see the author did a lot of research here. I've been a fan of Diana Ross since the beginning and thought i knew so much about her. This book brought a different angle to the Diana Ross story. Chronologically it tells the story behind each of the albums and tracks, and how they were relevant at that time to the Diana. I read the book while listening to the music at the same time. It gives you a different slant on the recordings. Bravo to Mr. Phillips for this book. And bravo to Ms. Ross for all the great music. A must read for any fan.

Diana Queen of Motown Ian Phillips Sharon Davis 9781904408864 Books Reviews

this is a brillant book couldnt put it down, dont let your publishers spoil it cause your NEW version will be even better all the best you deserve it.A must have for every diana fan the NEW version of Queen of motown.
As a fan of Mozart and Motown I have oftened wondered when there would be a book dedicated to the complete works of Diana Ross, prepared in the same manner that has been used in numbering Mozart's work. This book comes close to meeting that goal. Mr. Phillips' work is unique in that the focus of the book is a discussion of Diana's earliest recordings in the early 60's through those released in the 21st Century. The tone of the book seems like Ian is sitting down with you and sharing a cup of coffee, or perhaps tea for those in the U.K. Although a very loyal fan, he maintains objectivity about some works he doesn't prefer but never in a critical manner. He also documents Diana's films and discusses her numerous television specials and one wanders why most of these are still not available on DVD. His research is to be commended in the section of wonderful US and UK discographies, which provide ranks in every genre possible including, Pop; R&B, Adult Contemporary,Jazz,Soundtracks,Christmas and even Classical. Few recording artists can have the crossover appeal that Diana Ross has had throughout her career and as the most loyal fans know there are still many unreleased recordings. As was the case when Mozart's works were being researched here there are some omissions such as the singles released as The Primettes and as The Supremes on the Tamla Label, before the Supremes became the Supremes on the Motown Label. Likewise there is no mention of Diana's "Making Spirits Bright," a Hallmark Christmas CD with the King's Singers and the Modern Jazz Quartet. Some of these works are mentioned in the album reviews which discuss singles as well as what was happening in Diana's life at that time; with few flaws-Diana has five siblings, Mary Wilson is an alto. There also appears to be an omission of the "Someday We'll Be Together" single by name, but the chart ranks are listed in the discography. This book would make a great gift for long time fans and those who have just discovered the legacy of work of Miss Ross. A must buy for collectors.
Excellent book--unique perspective--it looks at Diana Ross's career by evaluating each record release, movies, and television specials from an artistic viewpoint. Does something no other Diana Ross book has done.
A must read for fans of Diana Ross.
This book goes into great detail about all of Diana's recordings. A peek into what was happening in her life during thses recordings.
A wonderful read about a LEGENDARY women.
The author did his homework and shares his thoughts on the extrodinary career of this wonderful and talented lady.
I have read and reveiwed alot of books, because 1 I like to read 2 Oprah and this 1 is Special because I am Huge Fan and Collector of Diana Ross. I would have read this book on my own because of the subject matter Diana Ross, but this book was recommended by the author Ian Phillips who is a Facebbok Friend and also a fan of Miss Ross. It takes a Fan of Diana Ross's to give you there true prospective and account of a subject they not only follow but think about what they are writing for the simple fact of who might read their work Oprah or Miss Ross herself. So if you are a fan as I am you will either read this book or add it to your collection. I have done both and it is a GOOD READ.......Curtis(curtislhudson@facebook.com)
